Biography
Lei Huang received his doctoral degree in forensic medicine from the
Department of Forensic Pathology, Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun
Yat-sen University, China, in June 2018. He subsequently pursued
research training in the United States at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill and Washington University in St. Louis (WashU),
where he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and later as a
Staff Research Scientist. During his time in Dr. Jianmin Cui’s
laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at WashU, his
research focused on the voltage-dependent gating mechanisms of KCNQ
channels, primarily using voltage-clamp fluorometry and
electrophysiological approaches. In July 2025, he joined Dr. Yasushi
Okamura’s laboratory in the Department of Integrative Physiology,
Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Osaka, Japan, as a
full-time Specially Appointed Researcher. There, he continued to
investigate the molecular and biophysical mechanisms of voltage-gated
ion channels. In July 2026, he joined PRIME as a full-time Specially
Appointed Researcher. His research interests include the biophysics and
modulation of voltage-gated ion channels, as well as their roles in
physiological and pathophysiological processes.
