Graduate Course “AI for Medicine and Life Sciences” (formerly “Introduction to Human Metaverse Medicine”), Academic Year 2026

Mathematics, data science and AI — the ‘reading, writing and arithmetic’ of the digital age — are essential skills that medical and graduate students, as well as practicing physicians, should acquire. With advances in AI technology, clinical decision-support AI systems (such as OpenEvidence) and AI-enabled medical devices suitable for use in clinical practice are being developed. To use these technologies correctly, an understanding of the principles of machine learning and AI is necessary. The Japanese government has set the goal of ‘revitalizing science’ and is accelerating policies to fully integrate AI-related technologies into scientific research. These efforts are referred to as ‘AI for Science’. Medicine is no exception. This course is designed to impart the mindset and knowledge required for ‘Medicine and Healthcare in the AI Era’.
