The Forefront of AI for Science and Its Applications in Medicine and Healthcare
– Could AI win the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine by 2050? –
(Part of the graduate course “Artificial Intelligence for Medicine and Life Sciences”)
As part of Japan’s efforts to advance AI-driven scientific research, AI for Science has become a key national priority. One particularly ambitious goal is the Nobel Turing Challenge, which aims to enable AI to make a Nobel Prize-worthy discovery in Physiology or Medicine by 2050.
This lecture introduces current AI applications in medicine, including clinical decision support systems and AI-enabled medical devices, and provides an overview of emerging topics such as AI for Science and medical foundation models. It also considers why knowledge of mathematics, data science, and AI is becoming increasingly important for the future of medicine and biomedical research.
This introductory lecture is open to all interested participants and will be offered as a public lecture.
