SMAD3 mediates the specification of human iPSC-derived epicardium into progenitors for the cardiac pericyte lineage
Dr. Antonio Lucena-Cacace (WPI-PRIMe, Osaka University), Dr. Yoshinori Yoshida (CiRA, Kyoto University) and their research group discovered that SMAD3 mediates the specification of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived epicardium into progenitors for the cardiac pericyte lineage. This achievement may be a biological knowledge-base of a new approach of a treatment for cardiovascular diseases.
