Construction of Diagnostic Prediction Algorithms and Precision Medicine for Cardiovascular Diseases

We build mathematical models of the heart by using data acquired from experiments using cardiac organoids constructed from human iPS-derived cardiomyocytes, as well as clinical data. These models of the heart, such as normality, disease, and aging, enable diagnostic prediction and development of new therapies.

Research Outline

We developed novel myocardial repair treatment by cell transplantation, created an autologous myoblast sheet1. It was transplanted to patients, approved as the world’s first regenerative medicine product for heart in 2015. Based on this achievement, we also worked on the development of a therapy using iPS cell-derived cardiomyocytes2 with pulsatile ability (iPS-CM), and transplanted iPS-CM patch to patients with severe heart failure for the first time in the world in 20203. These cell transplantation therapies we have developed add new options to the treatment of severe heart failure.
